Based on the previous USTC Research Office of History of Natural Sciences and Research Office of Scientific Archaeology, our dept was established in March 1999 in cooperation with History of Natural Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

History of S&T is regarded as the national first-class discipline key doctoral program in USTC, which has the right to confer Doctor's degree of Science and Master's degree. Scientific Archaeology embraces two sub-majors——One is Scientific Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Sciences, and another one is Archaeology and Museology. Scientific Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Sciences plays a key role in History of S&T, and has the right to confer Doctor's degree of Science and Master's degree. The direction of Archaeology and Museology has the right to confer Master's degree.
We aim to cultivate high-end talents in fields including History of S&T and Scientific archaeology for our nation by probing into major issues concerning S&T and the origin of civilization with intersected perspectives and methods. Also, we propose to provide a broad historic perspective for potential scientists, engineers as well as entrepreneurs to strengthen quality education in S&T and humanities. Students would be equipped with the in-depth analysis critical thinking and judgment ability for major issues in fields of science and technology and the whole society.
