Approved by Chinese Academy of Sciences, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of University of Science and Technology of China was established in November 2000.
The establishment of School of Humanities and Social Sciences marks University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) moving towards a world-class research university and serves as a key role in cultivating well-rounded qualified science and technology talents.
Its goal is to go in line with global contemporary higher education systems and fully implement Party's education policy and well-rounded quality education.
After 20 years of development, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences has made great strides in discipline construction and talents cultivation.

At the present, the School embraces 115 teaching and administrative staff, including 13 professors and 32 associate professors.

Four open online courses in top quality from Ministry of Education of China: Ceramic Art Appreciation and Production, A Brief History of Science and Scientific Revolution, A Brief History of Science and Chinese Sciences, Introduction of Chinese Culture and Confucianism.
One national top-quality course, national high-quality sharing courses (Psychology for college students).
During "The 14th Five-Year Plan" period, USTC will further achieve high-quality develoment in humanities and social sciences, and take the advantage of intersection between liberal arts and science to strengthen the descipline constructions in History of S&T, Scientific Archaeology, S&T Communication, S&T Philosophy, as well as S&T Translation.
The School will also follow the path towards a global top-class reseach university and faithfully devote with the aim of "unity, innovation, scientific research promotion and high-quality teaching and service towards the society".
